Thanks Conny and Wayners. It's not spring loaded sadly. Sawing it in half is my next option.

Hi, I still haven't been able to remove the blinds. I tried to move central peg into the elongated but that slat of wood across stops it. I think the solution is remove the slat. Honestly who would have installed it like that, making it so difficult to remove.

Hi John, There are no aluminium channels at the sides - this looks like an old style roller blind, it was in the house when I moved in. This is what I can see at either end of the blind. I'm at a loss as to how to get the blind off.

I can see the brackets on either side of the roller but no screws holding it in place.
