    Areas will chip away like dust. Don't know enough to know exactly what it is. Can a regular drywall skimcoat be used?

    I believe it's regular plaster board from the 1940-50's. The pattern runs behind the cabinets and everything so I assume it was purchased with the pattern already on it. The grooves are only about 1/16 of an inch deep.

    We're doing a DIY kitchen remodel and are wondering what can be done with the fake tile pattern etched into our wall. At this point I would say we are better than novice DIYers but not looking to get into something we can't get right. Any ideas?
