OK more info. The back comes off the timer and the wires are connected to this, when you put it onto the unit a pin makes contact with the terminal. There is no pin for number 2. It this correct or has it broken off. This means terminal 2 is not connected to the unit Thanks .

No, its never worked properly, appears to be OK during the summer as the room thermostat is turned down but as soon as you turn it up off we go.
