Thanks for the advice. The Altech inhibitor bottles look identical to the "No nonsense" ones sold by Screwfix, but look different to Fernox bottles to me. I can only find test kits for Fernox and Sentinel. Is it worth trying those?
I could just stick in a bottle of Altech now without...
Our sealed heating system is 16 months old and was filled with Altech inhibitor when new. Since then, several valves and things have been replaced, so I'm worried that the inhibitor has become diluted. Is there a way to test it? I can find Altech inhibitor but not a test kit for it.
Thanks for all the earlier advice. Here is an update:
A guy from the window company visited to fix the leak. He said that the inverted cap wasn't helping, but the main cause was the drainage holes inside the frame, which had been drilled too high (as shown in the pic below). He fixed it by...
I wouldn't be surprised. Since they put the drainage cover in upside down, they could have done that too! (Unfortunately, I didn't see whether rain was leaking around the glass because it had stopped raining by then.)
Thanks for the detailed advice!
Yes it's a sandstone surround (I think), but the mastic around the window is in poor condition: it looks like the bottom part of it has been replaced for some reason.
Here is a pic of the inside: not much to see except a water stain and the sealant has separated from the frame.
But I'm curious why you said the hole is unlikely to be causing the leak? The site manager might well say the same thing and I need to know whether he's right.
To me (not an...
Thanks for the ideas. Yes, it's definitely a diamond-shaped window.
I've just taken another shot from a higher angle. Does this look right? Any clues about whether it's upside down?
Our house (built 2013) has a non-opening uPVC window which has started leaking. Inspection outside revealed a big hole near the bottom, partially covered by a plastic strip (left). A neighbour's window has the same plastic strip but no hole is visible (right). Presumably the strip covers some...
