Thanks,'breezer'...yes the manufacturers guidelines in respect of "minimum ceiling void" and clearance of insulation material etc. were met and I have tried a variety of bulbs....from supermarket to high price. It was mainly the idea of using a transformer without altering the bulb voltage...

I have recessed downlighters in an extension off the kitchen fitted with R80 100W ES Reflector Bulbs.These bulbs 'blow' and need replaced every few weeks. I am told variously that.....I should fit dimmer switches.....I should fit a transformer...to extend the life of the bulbs. Does anyone...
