My immersion heater is attached to a fused switched outlet. The fuse cover is getting hot when the immersion heater is switched on. Is this normal (bearing in mind the load going through it) or does it indicate a fault? I've replaced the fused switched outlet and the wiring between outlet and...
As an alternative to tiling I want to use some kind of wall panel
B & Q do some splashbacks that match their worktops. Anyone seen anything similar elsewhere?
These are not the usual 10 cm high upstands but a panel 600 (or1200) x 2400 and about 10mm thick
My apologies to anyone who...

YEEESSSS.... 72%...... Result...! ... er... actually that's probably not good is it... no wonder I can't make any friends since moving to the Cotswolds from Middlesbrough.
First you practice on your own, carefully handling your tool.
Then you gain experience in many rooms in the house.
Then of course you might be tempted to advertise your services.
Finally you get careless.. stick your fingers where they shouldn't go and end up in s**t creek.
Along an 1825mm run of units (925 corner, 600 oven base, 300 base) my walls are "off" by about 15mm with the gap increasing i.e. with corner unit fixed in place, the other units are away from the wall when lined up with the corner cab - how best to deal with this?
I'm renovating an old house (150 yrs old) and was going to lay a laminate floor in the kitchen in a black slate effect. I took up the old lino and found real black slate? tiles! These look like they are original to the house or at least pre ww2.
At some point a foam back carpet has been on...
After a complete wash cycle, if the machine is left unattended with the water supply left on, the machine fills with water and leaks all over the floor.
This water is often smelly, so I at first thought it was water backing up from the waste pipe. I tried removing this from the stand-pipe and...
I'm about to hang my kitchen wall units later this week and I know the height you set them depends on how tall you are, what height you want them etc but is there a minimum distance between worktop and bottom of wall unit or something that's considered "standard".
I was thinking 600mm but...
Thanks for the quick replies. I've read previous posts too and it all makes sense to me now. Circuit is indeed protected by a 32A mcb.
Fortunately, I only have space for standard 60cm cooker so I don't have the temptation to fit a huge range cooker with 4 ovens and a kabillion rings on the hob!
I would try Richer Sounds hi-fi shops. They sell hi-fi cable at about half the price of the main dealer hi-fi stores. you could get something pretty good for about £2 per metre. Gale 315 or similar. They also do some "flat" cables - might be useful in some installations.
Ok - I see the reason now for siting the switch in view and close to the cooker.
Cooker circuit was already in place using 4mm cable. I've checked manufacturers website, it would appear oven is 2.4kw and hob 6kw. I'm assuming then, that hob into cooker outlet and oven on different circuit...
Is it ok to exit cooker cable from wall into back of kitchen base cupboard so that the cooker switch unit is out of site? Also, the switch is the cooker unit plus socket type. I will have single-fan oven and 4 ring ceramic hob. Which do I wire into the outlet and which should I plug into the...
