Replacing a ceiling light with a socket?

If it is to run a loft light then install one properly as part of the upstairs lighitn circuit. If it is to run the TV amp etc. a Fused Connection Unit with a 3A fuse & a socketoutlet aren't going to cause any problems....... unless you've got a bathroom extractor fan already on that circuit...

    automated distribution board

The cleaner is a good analogy. If the substance in the spill were a hazardous acid you'd expect to get someone who knew how to sort it out. The hazard in re-setting this MCB is not in resetting it, rather in the proximity to live parts and the lack of protection from contact with those parts...

    Cable colours?

The las MK boards I bought had a patch of stickers to Harmonise the older cables and board labels. Last Cheap& Cheery Denmans ones were fully Harmonised, suppose it depends on how fast they clear the old stock. Use tape and break out the box of crayons? :)

    help!! (with power)

Genny'll do it for the price of a decent pre-amp. Those 'Wolf' ones seem cheap and cheerful and claim to be quiet running.

No Earth cable in orginal ring circuit flex

What kind of property is it? Many 1930-50's apartment blocks had conduit systems. Are the conductors in a waxy cloth over rubber insulation? If so, due to the age of the installation, it would be wise to consider a rewire. The insulation on these often deteriorates badly near outlets, especially...

    Puzzle

Next time the TV goes into standby and the LED flashes, count the sequence of blinks it makes. Dependig on the manufacturers info available, you can then check what it's trying to tell you. One common one is when it goes into "protection" mode. This can be due to the failure of components within...

    How to install earth pit?

Dig square hole, no need for concrete. If very stony ground, move the pit to the least stony area. Run a bit of PVC conduit from destination point to earth pit. Use the conduit bending spring to make the necessary shape. drop a draw-string through attatched to a weight so you can pull your 16 or...

Which size SWA for a 40 metre run into music room?

Now you've dropped me here. RCD only? what protects the circuit/cabling? I feel like we're on the same road but different lanes here somehow :) Reading back with all the talk of earth etc it may not read right, but the type C comment was not about earth leakage. Type C : was talking about...

Which size SWA for a 40 metre run into music room?

Folks always end up trying to record in places like these. Sound engineering was where I started out and ground hum and mains induced transients are a real pig. Hiss hum clicks and pops can ruin a whole series of takes, chucking hours down the drain, and somehow you never hear them until after...

Urgent Q re: Double Oven wiring

We get some cottages around here on 40A incomers BAS. Mind you he'd have to be one dilligent Builder to know that as they're in the same housing. Need to get a clearer pic of where he's coming from before we can say really. Gas hobs are how they do it in many flats with old supplies too, as...

Urgent Q re: Double Oven wiring

Sounds like he may be talking about the main supply incomer not taking any increase in load as he's allowing for a larger cable to the point of use. Would need to clarify this first.
