HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

Hi Mike. Okay thanks. The electrican did his own tests and agreed with me that the casings of the appliances were live. He was as surprised as I was that this was the case, but unfortunately had not come across this before and he was unsure how to proceed. I have just posted some results...

HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

I can't answer that one as I don't have one of those screwdrivers. However, the voltage on the case of the appliances is definitely live and when touched you do get a mild shock.

HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

Hello Mike. I do suspect the house wiring, especially as I know that the property was rewired recently. Can you suggest any tests that I can perform that may help to find a fault with the house wiring. Thanks.

HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

Thanks for your help. I understand what you have told me and perhaps this is the case. I can certainly try earthing the coax and will let you know the result. The thing that concerns me is that the voltage reading is variable, I think the highest reading that I have had is 62V ac. I am...

HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

Hello Coljack. Could you let me know how best to take these readings. Is it okay to insert my multimeter probes directly into the plug socket, or should I remove the socket fascia and put the probes on the wires inside. Just want to be sure that it is safe to do so. Thanks

HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

Breezer. You may need to correct me here if i am taking readings incorrectly. I put one end of my multimeter on the TV coax socket (on the rear of the TV), but without the coax cable connected and the other end of the multimeter on the screw of the wall socket, although the electrician...

HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

I am starting to think that there is something quirky about the wiring in this house. I know the property was rewired recently, much of the wiring has been routed outside the house and back in again, all fitted inside conduit/trunking. Is it possible that any water entering the conduit outside...

Breezer. I have tried my main TV and a portable TV from upstairs and plugged them into a socket in the kitchen. Both appliances gave a reading aroung 43V ac.

HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

Mike. I have tried a different TV plugged into the same socket and still get a reading - 32V ac on this occasion !!! I am not sure and can't understand why the voltage is varying.

HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

Hello John D. I did think of whether one appliance might be faulty and the leakage affecting others via the scart leads, but I have disconnected the scart leads between all the appliances and the readings still remain. Any ideas - thanks.

HELP - Electrical Fault - The case on my DVD & VCR are l

Mike. Just to confirm. I have no mains leakage into the coax. Presently, if I simply plug the TV, DVD player or the VCR into the wall socket, I get a reading of between 15 and 60V ac, which varies on all of these appliances. This reading is with the aerial coax disconnected. I will try...

Breezer. I think I understand what you are saying, but I really am not sure, but thanks. Mike, I have tried a different DVD player (from my sons room) on this socket and I get the same readings.
