I'd have been happy paying for it to be fixed, in fact I did pay it. As a lay person I just wanted opinion on the estimate and whether or not he had diagnosed it correctly.

I can see I'll have issues with the engineer. I'm assuming from previous posts that it's a ventilation issue, I mentioned this to him and he told me that I should leave him to diagnose the problem - all very well had he done that first time around.

I'm in total acceptance of what you said, but other people on here said he had diagnosed correctly. I don't bv;ame anyone for the £400 bill, just the fact that it became more about the money, I asked if it was reasonable to charge this amount, I was told it was.

Thanks to all the gas people who offered their advice, more so some than others.
I went with the gas engineer who diagnosed the fault, paid through the nose for the fan and guess what, still no heat or hot water. Same problem, only issue is that he said he was unable...

I should have stated that the cost of £350 was for the repair not the diagnosis. I paid a call out charge of £45, so it'd be £350 on top of that. My concern was more that he was making money on the part which seemed a little excessive - although I understand that he deserves some...
