Water Hammer has burst my coupling

?? What would you have done then? Your description of water hammer is all very interesting but of no use at all in this situation. The OP already stated that the system is a sealed system so has no tank fed supply hence no ball valve. And you can hardly expect to turn on a tap or other system...

Push fit plastic joints on copper pipes? Is it a good idea?

Bloody hell people, everyone has this poor woman written off as mentally ill! I do hope that you get to the bottom of this if only to prove that she ISN'T mad. The idea of power off, water off etc is great and sure to prove a point either way. Old people can be fickle and annoying at times...

Push fit plastic joints on copper pipes? Is it a good idea?

Really? Push fits are definately easier and quicker but not nearly as long lasting as copper. I would say copper is best. A push fit will always be prone to blowing off or the seal failing at some point but copper is there to stay if its done right. It'll only fail if it freezes and bursts but...

    Potterton Promax 15HE cutting out

Got my boiler sorted. The ignition PCB (which i had soldered before on the ignition pin) had a transistor which had some very slight browning round the pins like it had got too hot, closer inspection revealed poor and pitted solder around the pins so i resoldered it and so far all is well...

Push fit plastic joints on copper pipes? Is it a good idea?

Bloody hell...don't know where to start on this!? I do feel that you might have an overactive imagination when it comes to the spooks side of things but who knows? To be honest, you just never know. When a house is old you just have no idea what has been done or by whom in the past so some of...

Push fit plastic joints on copper pipes? Is it a good idea?

Tectite pro are a bit pricey though unless you are buying in massive amounts of bulk. Prob the reason why they are not widely used. Even pushfits can be pricey compared to a load of E/F copper fittings. Pound for pound Endfeed are best, cheaper, more reliable, contaminent proof and foolproof...

Push fit plastic joints on copper pipes? Is it a good idea?

push fits can be used on chrome plated copper as long as you remove the plating where the grip ring fits but i would agree as its more hassle than its worth. I prefer compression on chrome then you know it won't shift. Most electric showers now have a push fit to accept the pipe and chrome...

Flushing the system, crud in radiators.

Sounds like the landlord has you over a barrel and he knows it. Its wrong really but thats life, he'll put the rent up or sell and you're on the move again so i can appreciate you don't wanna rock the boat. I'm assuming you've bled the rads for air? If not you could always remove the rads...

Flushing the system, crud in radiators.

As above, the landlord has a responsibility to maintain the premises and i'm sure (but not 100%) that there should be an annual inspection as part of the rental agreement. If you start powerflushing or removing rads and flood the place you'll be in heaps of trouble so let the landlord deal with it.

    Potterton Promax 15HE cutting out

Thanks for the reply. Found all my thermostats etc to be good, the combustion door seal was crumbly and a small part was missing which has been replaced now. As far as i know the electrodes have never been replaced so i'll do this as they are so cheap and easy to do. Other than that the PCB...

Replacement of Asbestos garage with brick...planning needed?

The asbestos garage is the easy bit. I can either do that myself and take it to the local tip as they have asbestos facilities or my parents will probably get someone in to have it dismantled. Either way, the question wasn't the asbestos part but whether permission would be needed to rebuild on...

Replacement of Asbestos garage with brick...planning needed?

No I suppose not. I don't know why i thought that as rules are rules aren't they. I think what i meant was some councils are better than others and some are just crap when it comes to certain things but at the end of the day the regulations and compliances would have to be the same. From...

Replacement of Asbestos garage with brick...planning needed?

Hi all, Just a quickie (Ooo matron) My parents are in the midst of a move to a house with a free standing asbestos garage to the rear of the property about 2 feet from the boundary fence to next door. They would like to have the garage taken down and removed and replaced with a proper...

    Potterton Promax 15HE cutting out

Thanks for the reply. Its tripped out again at some point and at the moment won't restart. After flicking the reset switch the fan starts, something in the black box clicks twice but it doesn't ignite. It does this 4 times then the fan cuts off and its powered off. I'll try again in a while...

    Potterton Promax 15HE cutting out

Hi all and apologies if this question has been raised before but... I have a Potty Promax 15HE boiler that is about 8 years old and has been fine but recently its been cutting out and usually fires up again once the reset switch is flicked. Today, i flicked the switch but it wouldn't ignite...
