Thanks crank39, that is my understanding - I'm looking to confirm I'm being reasonable in refusing to pay a locksmith over £100 for a "gearbox service" when it seems ridiculous to me to service a part that costs £30.

Is this a service that people provide and if so what is a reasonable price for the service? Thanks, John
