Chisel 20mm out of ceiling joist

It is double skinned Selkirk, the installation instructions can be found here. http://www.selkirkchimney.co.uk/documents/products/STC%20UK%2051000701%20080911.pdf Looking at page 6 you can see at the ceiling support it is effectively boxed in and it says that the air gap MUST be...

Chisel 20mm out of ceiling joist

Thanks, I'll run that by him as well and see what he says. It would only be at the joist and ceiling truss and because the flue is curved it will be a minimal amount passing the wood.

Chisel 20mm out of ceiling joist

Thanks, a ceramic tile may be a an option. I'll run it by the installer when he comes to quote. I've also spoken to a flue supplier and they can supply 15 or 30 degree bends to offset the flue. They do seem to increase the price of the system by about 20% though and probably wouldn't look as...

Chisel 20mm out of ceiling joist

Yes the clearance is the minimum distance to combustible material. I think the problem with something like a metal plate is that it would transfer the heat to the joist. With only 30mm to play with I think it will be difficult to get something in there that will sufficiently shield the heat.

Chisel 20mm out of ceiling joist

I'm going to be getting a free standing wood burning stove fitted and did some measurements in the loft last night to see where the flue will go. The stove we've ordered has to be 200mm from the wall downstairs. With the flue running straight up and into the loft there will be a clearance of...

    Hot water cylinder operation question

I have a hot water tank that sits on the shelf above my gas boiler. There is also a switch in the kitchen (that I don't use) for hot water. I understand how an electric hot water cylinder works and how a gas hot water cylinder works however mine is both gas and electric heated. The electric part...

Multi Fuel Stove and Combustible Wall

While I appreciate the plaster won't burn is there not the risk of the card type material that holds the plaster together burning and/or the heat being transferred through the plaster and burning the studs? The installation instructions state that beneath the stove gets up to 130C+. I've read on...

Multi Fuel Stove and Combustible Wall

I'm looking into having a Dunsley Highlander 5 multi fuel stove installed in my living room. There is no fireplace so it will be free standing. The flue can go straight up and I've read if I use a Selkirk twin flue straight from the stove it can be 50mm from combustibles. For the floor I plan to...

Mains gas boiler on Calor Gas

Can a mains gas boiler run on a Calor gas system? Are modifications required?

    Loose Bath Handles

I found a workaround. I removed the handle and was able to tighten one of the studs from this side using vice grips. The other just turned so I drilled a small hole through the bath next to the stud and stopped the bolt turning while I used the vice grips to tighten. I also removed the rubber...

    Loose Bath Handles

ok thanks i'll see if I can source some white grommets in the correct size. If not I may have to make a hole in the floor beneath the bath big enough to get my arm through! I called Roca and they dont do grommits.

    Loose Bath Handles

I renovated my bathroom last year and fitted a new bathroom suite. I remember when fitting the bath handles that I lifted the bath with them and they immediately came loose. They are the type where a stud goes through and then the handles have a tiny allen key bolt so you can fix them on from...

    Isolation valve wrong way round

ok thanks for that. I'll see how it goes but I might need to change the tap. Water saving has never been particularly necessary in the North of Scotland. We have more than we know what to do with! £6.48 was for one! I think I probably paid double for the extra bits I needed to get for the...
