thank you for your replies.......job is now sorted........got an electrician coming round in a couple of days......DIY........I just love it ..lol

it is on a 40 amp fuse ....the cooker switch is an older type about 7"x8" & I would like to replace this with a smaller one (about the size of a light switch). I still need to use the plug socket,but would like to re-site it a bit lower......I think the cable is about 6mm....

OK.... I have a cooker switch on the wall that has a socket, I want to change this to just a cooker switch,but I still need a socket... can I run a spur from where the cooker wires in and run a double socket from that ?....would I need to put in a fused switch ? & what type of cable would be...
