    Uneven Sub floor

Builder who laid concrete is laying the floor. As a favour I might ad so awkward complaining which is why I'm checking. Thanks

    Uneven Sub floor

It is engineered wood, and I reckon it flexes by 5mm at the most. The new concrete floor shares a border with an existing concrete floor and existing floorboards on the other side. It is around these 'transitions' between old and new where the bouncy spot is. The more I walk on it the less it's...

    Yes I believe there is

    Uneven Sub floor

Hi all Having an extension done and floating floor has just gone down on concrete sub floor. There's a small area where the flooring is quite bouncy. Now I appreciate that with a floating floor this is to be expected to an extent. But given the builders have just laid the concrete sub floor...

    RSJ - Two or One?

PS you're absolutely right, I did look up UB tables!

    RSJ - Two or One?

Span is just shy of 4.5m. Yeah it was more H than I. I'm assuming that since BC has inspected and approved that it is fit for purpose but somewhat frustrated they wouldn't consult with me before changing the design. Thanks Tony

    RSJ - Two or One?

Thanks tony. It's certainly approx 200 in width but would've guessed at it being higher than that so I'm not sure. Will find out tomorrow. Can I expect some form of certification as to the spec of the beam in place?

    RSJ - Two or One?

Thanks for all the input all, here's the reason I ask: We're having a rear extension built. Calcs done and approved by BC. Steel is now in place and again approved by BC. I happened to be reading through our engineers design package yesterday and noticed he had recommended two ub203x133x25s...

    RSJ - Two or One?

Thanks Nakajo. Are there any nuanced difference in their structural properties or is one simply stronger than the other?

    RSJ - Two or One?

Out of interest can anyone briefly sum up the difference in properties between two smaller RSJs bolted together and one bigger RSJ? E.g two ub203x133x25 bolted together versus one UB 533x210x82 Is it a simple case of the bigger one being stronger in all areas or is it more nuanced? (I...

    House Movement After Steel Beam

Thanks Woody, appreciate the advice. Damage is very minimal and our builder is a reasonable guy so I'm not worried about that so much. My main concern was safety & the house falling down etc. Will consult with our engineer and building control manager and hopefully get some assurances.

    House Movement After Steel Beam

Thanks Woody. So do you think this requires further investigation, i.e. Potentially a bigger problem than just a few cracked tiles

    House Movement After Steel Beam

Hi all We're in the midst of an extension and the steel was put in place about 5 days ago and we've just noticed some cracks in upstairs wall above it. I've attached some pictures below but essentially the tiling in the bathroom has cracked in a zig zag shape along the grouting and in one...

    Party Wall Help

Thanks all, building control have told me something similar (not that it's within their remit) Although if the drawings indicate that the foundations will not go below next doors and for some reason when it comes to it they do (either through unforeseen circumstances or the neighbours have...

    Party Wall Help

Thanks Wessex. However local surveyors have already put mail through their door highlighting the potential issue after they saw our planning app on the council website. So they're aware of the PWA. Ultimately I would never do anything to upset them or jeapordise their house. They seem very...
