Thanks hooverengineer - I wasn't confident enough to remove the plug and re-solder. But instead I used duck tape to secure the plug tightly to the circuit board. So far (after a few washes) the problem is solved. If the duck tape does fail in the future I'll let everybody know.

hooverengineer - Can you provide a bit more info, e.g. where the litre counter switch is located and what to do. Thanks
