please forgive me if this is the wrong forum etc but a while ago i spent 4k on a city and guilds that isn't worth the paper its printed on but i didnt find that out till it was too late and i'd bought a load of fittings are there any plumbers in the durham area that would be interested in buying...

thanks guys sorry its taken so long to get back, i'll try the jamjar idea, if this helps i have one rad in the living room that keeps packing up and when i run the pump i have to remove the air every week as opposed to fortnightly

i have a gravity and pump fed indirect system (no 3 port valve) can anyone tell me why it would suddenly start sucking air? some time ago i removed the sludge from the system "it was bad" and ever since i have had to take an air lock out at the top tee return to the f&e tank in the loft average...

thanks guys i've sorted it. i cracked the return T but all i got was water because it was fed from the loft then i occured to me that the lock might be in the coil rather than the pipes so i cracked the feed T (blindingly obvious) im an idiot sometimes and the head of water pushed the lock out...

sorry, my fault im not a good explainer, when i said no domestic hot water i meant there is water its just not heating, it takes 4 hours with the gas on full bore to get it anywhere near hot enough for a bath etc, yes the f&e tanks are full

I have a bog standard indirect gravity and pump fed system with no 3 port or motorised valve i:e c.h has priority. I'm constantly getting air locks which stop the water in the cylinder from heating. so no domestic hot water. I've taken air locks out of the nearest and furthest rad pipes...

mine clicks if i go below 18 and the pump wont work, it has to be over 18 to circulate the water through the downstairs rads

i had the same problem water trickling out and after much searching i discovered some twit had closed the gate valves in the airing cupboard

hi dave the pipes come from the f&e tanks in the loft to the cylinder and about 6 inches from the cylinder, theres an equal t on the feed and return pipes as they enter and exit the cylinder with another pipe feeding from the t's going under the floorboards to the ch, i forgot to mention before...

thanks dave yes its fully pumped with a gas fired back boiler behind the fire its got your bog standard copper cylinder in the airing cupboard with the ch feed and return in the side and the ch is prioritised by means of a 28mm equal compresson tee in the feed

powerflush may not cause problems but consider this if you have sludge blocking corrosion pin holes in the pipes taking it away with a power flush will let the leaks out i did my entire system by hand one rad at a time

thanks ben but we do own the house, we bought it 3 years ago or i would have called the council to sort it out, also i have successfully completed the course, im more of a do'er than an explainer so that might explain the way i posed the question, when i got the c&g i realised that i still knew...
