Thank you! I’d read that black wires were the old equivalent to blue and that meant colour coding for a neutral wire, so thought that was always the case, but I see that must have been wrong. I’ve wired it up as you said and I now have a fully functioning bathroom pull chord again. Thanks so much!

Does it matter which way round the neutral and live cable go? Should live be to supply and neutral to load?
