Thanks for the info. Turned out that the pump was compromised and there is some muck in the system. Also the expansion vessel had lost pressure and needed replacing.
Ok
Did a cold start with just the upstairs rads. One of the pipes at the top of the boiler went from luke warm to cold very quickly and the other one got very hot quite quickly. The pipes upstairs around the pump and valve got hot within a minute or so of the boiler firing up.
A couple of...
Of the 2 pipes coming out of the top of the boiler, one is too hot to touch and the other is hot.
At the UFH manifold, the pipe between the electric valve and stat is warm (boiler flow one?) and the other pipe is pretty cold (loop?)
Have turned all UFH room 'stats down and will report back...
Ah, right thanks.
I've only got 7-way manifolds on the UFH with five individual room thermostats. So, if the room 'stats don't demand heat from the system and if the TMV is faulty, where's all the excess heat going?
But why would rads be stone cold when UFH is on but some of them get hot when UFH is off if it was a pump issue?
I am completely ignorant by the way so forgive me if it's a stupid question
Don't have thermometers on UFH, just a thermostat that's set to 40 degrees.
Boiler does have a thermal store
Cylinder on separate cicuit to upstairs rads
Hot water is hot
Thanks. Doesn't sound like the easy solution I was hoping for.
Thinking about it, the hot water isn't as hot as it used to be and the radiators aren't hot hot, only very warm when I switch off the UFH. They used to be very hot, even when they were on with UFH and hot water. Sounds like it...
It's been working fine for 7 years.
The rads are completely cold apart from one or two that are lukewarm.
I haven't tried tempoarily turning off the loops (not sure how to do this tbh)
There is a motorised valve through which the rads are supplied and it only shuts when the timer 'tells' it...
I have an unvented oil-fired system. Downstairs is underfloor, upstairs is wet rads. The problem is that when I have both downstairs and upstairs heating on, the rads are cold upstairs. When I turn the underfloor off, the rads upstairs get hot.
Right, all the previously cold rads are now hot and the previously hot rads that I turned right down earlier are obviously cold. Is it just a case of adjusting stats all round now to required level and thus end of problem?
Thanks for all the help and advice guys :D
I've tried turning the hot ones off but no difference. Also tried turning stats on and off but still no change.
House is only 7 years old as are rads and pump.
