Window Sill - Asbestos? How to 'make good'?

Looking at the photo again.. I'd agree it does look like asbestos cement board that may have delaminated. I hadn't spotted before hence why i said "if it is asbestos." So Woody's right on three counts.. 1) when encapsulated it poses no harm. 2) it doesent need a survey to diagnose. 3) It...

Help calculating Vol to mass for diff concrete types

Yes well.. I frequently do. Unfortunately I just like to understand. Thanks for the explanations. Much appreciated. I've now eyed it in on both drawing and in situ. ended up with 40x 50 and 700-800 depth. made sure on solid chalk on base and as cuboid like as is possible. I'd like to...

Window Sill - Asbestos? How to 'make good'?

if and thats a BIG 'IF' it is asbestos. And you suspect possible further cracks. Use asbestostrip which can be diluted in water and sprayed on. The asbestos will abosrb it and reduce possible harm by fibres (cant remember how but) maybe by making them heavier and not possible to become airborne...

    Is this RSJ safe?

Does that mean the OP should get the work done with no calcs?

    Is this RSJ safe?

If 2 piers were designed to bear the weight of 10Tonnes and Steel to do the same then the wall in the middle would not have a part to play in the load bearing capacity. It is all dependant on the loads from all directions. There is no point saying rrespective of lateral load and loads above...

Help calculating Vol to mass for diff concrete types

After some thought I'm a little confused why you say type of concrete doesn't matter but that the volume does. I think i'm misunderstanding the concept of something important.. St1 is a weak mix and will be more prone to cracking either shrinkage or under load. If/ when it cracks the overall...

Help calculating Vol to mass for diff concrete types

Well it was only on the first one I dug that didnt get to chalk and flint.. stopped diggin the second just at the point where chalk started and third on were real swine as the auger would just bite lumps of flint and stop dead wacking me in the leg.. and whats worse was getting the poudry stuff...

Help calculating Vol to mass for diff concrete types

I'm going to redesign and will post some drawings 1st step and final. Thinking also to fil the posts with a mix although I get a feeling it will take some time spoon feeding it. Although the concrete will be brittle it should stop bending.. For now am just digging a series of 900 holes. Am...

Help calculating Vol to mass for diff concrete types

Concrete area of 0.2 or 0.3 ok? ST1 ok? I'm now a little worried about the size/height. I was under the impression It would take considerable force to bend these posts. Would you recomend changing height and reducing to around 2.4m. of which only 1.7 exposed to wind.

The box sections are the fence posts 1.2 centers. Fence panel horizontal supports are 3 horizontal 3x2 timber. Above ground, initially it will be sheets of ply as hoarding. However for future considering old scaffold boards with 1cm spacing between. Below ground or between heights of 0...

Help calculating Vol to mass for diff concrete types

Actually visualizing 300x850 made me think there shoudlnt be too much of an issue.. well hope not cause i would like to have to get it back out... I' think my auger is only 200mm would that be wide enough given the depth?

Help calculating Vol to mass for diff concrete types

Thanks. As i was writing the last post i got a gut feeling that this would be said... Would ST1 be enough? Should be on dirty chalk & flint at this depth. Would 300mm diameter footings 850 deep (or Aprox 2/3 of height above ground where shorter) be ok? box section is 40mm 3mm wall at 1200...
