Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm going to try to get a new valve actuator today. I'll post back with the results.

I used a multimeter. I can hear the valve move when hot water is selected. The valve closes when the hot water cylinder is up to temp. I replaced just the valve motor with this http://www.screwfix.com/p/drayton-synchronous-motor/28670 - I'm suspecting I might have to change the complete valve...

Hi John, The thread looks in good condition - I can't see any cracks. The end of the washer does protrude past the base of the cistern. Looks like you have found my problem. Many thanks. What's best now - another washer or some silicone? Mark

Hi John Thanks for the reply. I think the washer is designed to go through the hole. It is a stepped shape. The smaller diameter part goes through the cistern hole. Mark[/img]
