Freeing seized Grundfos Amazon shower pump

Thanks for the reply. It's this one, Wickes code 160404 @ £269.99: https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Twin-Impeller-Shower-Pump-3-Bar/p/160404 It turned out to be an easy fix. I isolated the cold feed after freeing-up the stuck gate valve, undid the four very tight Pozidriv bolts holding the cold...

Freeing seized Grundfos Amazon shower pump

Hello, My parents had a Wickes twin impeller, 3 Bar shower pump installed about 2 years ago. It's only used now and again when they have guests, and surprise surprise, has seized. When there's a call for water, it buzzes and gets warm but doesn't actually run. The showers "work", but the flow...

Replacing MDPE x Copper stop valve

Hi everyone, My parents' house was built 20 years ago, the incoming water pipe is blue plastic (MDPE?), and the rest of the system 15mm copper. The main stop valve hasn't been touched in 20 years and is well and truly seized. It's cheap and nasty too and I think I'd be better replacing it...

"Vintage" Worcester 240RSF, DHW cycles hot/lukewar

Fantastic, will nip down to Screwfix and get some X800 and report back. BTW, I changed the plate HE 3 years ago - converted it from the old-style white enameled cannister thing. A pig of a job that I don't want to repeat if possible.

"Vintage" Worcester 240RSF, DHW cycles hot/lukewar

OK, more progress with this. It turns out that the burner is being shut down completely after a minute or so, which the MI says happens if the primary circuit temperature exceeds 90degC. It comes back on half a minute later, then shuts down again and so on and so on, hence my shower going a...

Big BANG after boiler serviced, what would you recommend?

Part 2 (sorry!) So I found another heating engineer, recommended by a neighbour this time. He connected it back to the gas supply, tested for leaks and found none, did the usual spillage tests for both the boiler and the fire, and repaired the gas fire in 30 seconds by removing a chunk of...

Big BANG after boiler serviced, what would you recommend?

Our end-of-terrace house has Baxi back boiler & gas fire (Bermuda 45/4M with GF3 Super fire) installed in 1999. I know 15 years is considered old, and that they’re inefficient, but it is serviced regularly and has never let us down. We moved out a few years ago, and the house is now let. I...

"Vintage" Worcester 240RSF, DHW cycles hot/lukewar

Tony, It is in fact a 280RSF as you suspected all along. Sorry for being thick. There is no user adjustment for DHW temp on this model. The MI says: "The maximum discharge temperature of hot water to the taps is preset at the factory". They also state that the DHW output is modulated...

"Vintage" Worcester 240RSF, DHW cycles hot/lukewar

Thanks, Justin (nice to meet someone other than the infamous Justin Time!). Friday afternoon job it may be, but it's outlasted almost every other household appliance we bought when we moved here 20 years ago, as well as most of my friends' and relatives' boilers. I will try isolating the...

"Vintage" Worcester 240RSF, DHW cycles hot/lukewar

Thanks Tony. It's definitely not going cold, just a bit less hot than it should be. And I've never noticed the bathroom rad being a bit warm the second I switch off the shower, which it was this morning. DHW sensor tests ok with an ohmeter. Do you suspect the Modureg/gas valve, in which...

"Vintage" Worcester 240RSF, DHW cycles hot/lukewar

Nice to hear from you again, Tony. That's definitely the type of diverter fitted to mine, which I think is quite an early model (literature dated 1993, installed 1994, model apparently discontinued 1998). It's described in the parts list as "special" So you've told me that's not the...

Lead radiator piping,an issue with gas

Andrew, With respect, it won't be lead. Lead was used for rising mains bringing water into the house but never for radiators AFAIK. Are you sure you don't mean iron, which seems quite common on pre-war properties that were lucky enough to have central heating installed?

"Vintage" Worcester 240RSF, DHW cycles hot/lukewar

Hello, My 240RSF has been misbehaving for the past two days. DHW starts hot, then goes rather lukewarm. Sometimes it gets hot again, sometimes not. I did notice the rads getting slightly warm too while the taps were running (as opposed to afterwards because of the pump overrun). I presume...
