    Yes, that's the conclusion I came to as well, I used a multi-meter to check to see if the current cable has any power to it, and couldn't find a voltage. I did originally have a professional install booked, but when they didn't show up I decided to hold of rebooking it and see if I could do it...

    The boiler works fine with just the backplate and no front bit of the honeywell reviever.

    Thank you! It's a vaillant ecoTEC plus 832 combi. I control it using the front panel on the boiler - I.e. either on, off, or timed, for timed I use the pins on the clock to set on/off times. The white flex on the left of the bottom picture is the flex that goes to the box in the post above
