I seem to recall that the flueliner for a solid fuel appliance is somewhat dearer than for a natural gas appliance, so this may explain part of the extra cost.
But, there must be someone cheaper out there!!
As a buyer for a large housebuilder, we are considering moving away from breathable membranes and reverting to standard felt with vented soffitt as there is no evidence that breathable membranes are actually any better.
For a standard flue liner (ie for a gas fire), in a similar length I paid £350 in huddersfield 2 yrs ago - I would recommend huddersfield chimney specialists. They used a ladder to access the roof.
obviously dependent on sizes and area, but my latest set of refurb prices show the following approx prices
5 section curved bay window £1250
1050 x 1200 window £250
Front Door £400
Porch - ?? est £750 to £1000
Giving you a grand total of (2500 + 250+250+400+1000) = £4,400. I reckon you...
some of the products to look at include Alwitra, who offer a 20yr guarantee - on a recent job for me an approved installer was quoting about £50per m2 ex vat
You'll probably need foil backed plasterboard for the ceiling to make the breathable membrane work - I know Tyvek insist on this. But I'm not as familiar with warm roofs!
On a new build house, I would expect to pay £45 per vent, supply and fit as part of the main roofing contract. this doesn't include any access (ie scaffold).
Hope this helps!
Just to correct the previous post:-
" everything supplied by the builder is subject to 10 year guarantee" - no completely accurate. Providing the building is underwritten by the NHBC, Zurich or other insurance, the structure of the building is covered for 10 years. Generally the internal fixt...
sounds like our 50s semi in worcester - an extension has been added and french doors have been used to access the extension.
wherabouts in worcester are you?
You might want to consider a 'whole house ventilation system', something from the likes of Nuaire or Greenwood. Easy to install, maintenance free (practically).
That said, I would pay no more than £75 for one fitted (outside of the M25!!). I pay around £40 in a new build property including...
Have you thought about a whole house ventilation system? The likes of Greenwood, Nu-Aire & Passivent are companies that will supply them. They are likely to become compulsory in some form in new dwellings next year.
They work by ventilating via a duct in the ceiling - each system is...
