    Air brick positioning

There's one in the garage adjoining (extension) and with the plan is to convert it to habitable space I'm thinking if extended through ducts it will lose efficiency. There are also no airbricks this end of the house so the air space likely is becoming a bit stale.

    Air brick positioning

I've done a bit of reading and ideally I know the air brick should be 1 course above the ground (75mm) and the DPC 2 courses (150mm), however in my case I'm a little more constrained. There are currently no airbricks on this end on the house as the previous owner's extension and conservatory has...

    Circuit tripping VO ELCB

Yeah there's only one circuit. If they're currently connected into one fuse then it would be good to split them onto two RCBOs, but if not then a little more challenging I guess (can't see where in the house where the cables go to the loft). Maybe one to separate when I have work done upstairs...

    Circuit tripping VO ELCB

Just had a thought, as the electrician is coming to install a new TT rod when the consumer unit gets replaced, is it worth checking with SSE if the area is PME, as they don't charge for conversion to PME according to their website. https://www.ssen.co.uk/GeneralEnquiries/OutsideYourHome/PME/

    Circuit tripping VO ELCB

So I asked the electrician whether testing of circuits will be done before the installation and he said normally he doesn't, only once CU is installed. Also when checking that the spec of the RCBOs was OK as he specified trip curve and sizes, I put "I assume Type A, DP ones are preferable?"...

    Circuit tripping VO ELCB

Yeah saw they are only a little bit more for A which seems worth it.

Wow that would soon add up! Seem good though.

    Circuit tripping VO ELCB

Yeah we discussed SPDs and agreed they would be fitted. The fusebox one does have one fitted and believe it also has a dedicated MCB for the SPD. I will check about circuit checks, his T&Cs do say: Where work is to extend or modify existing circuits, costs quoted assume that the existing...

    Circuit tripping VO ELCB

To update, I've had an electrician I've used before and been happy with quote for replacing the consumer unit and doing a few minor circuit changes. New water and gas bonding plus new earth rod. I'm supplying the consumer unit and RCBOs as I have a preferred one which fits the space and the...

    Circuit tripping VO ELCB

Thanks all for your really helpful answers. I will arrange for an electrician to come in and replace with new consumer unit and isolator, preferably with RCBOs and have anything else rectified at the same time. I will just have to discuss with them future plans to make sure suitable provision...

    Circuit tripping VO ELCB

No other RCDs or any other protection at source. I have some RCD sockets on the garage circuit. I was intending to have it replaced as part of some garage conversion work I'm planning later next year as it's not a great setup. I believe the earth will require upgrading too.

    Circuit tripping VO ELCB

I'm having an issue with the downstairs sockets circuit in the house tripping the old Crabtree ELCB which is fitted inline with the fuse box. This has suddenly started to do this. I've been trying to work out what is going on and it seems that higher powered items trip it (kettle, microwave...

Trying to fit surrey valve into hot tank

I like having the immersion as a backup. Yeah think it will have to be an Essex flange. Was hoping to avoid it, as I've heard they're fiddly and prone to leaking.

Trying to fit surrey valve into hot tank

I've just installed a new 22mm feed to where a 2 bar shower pump is to be installed from the hot tank. I bought a surrey flange expecting it to screw in, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I have a supercal 900x450 hot tank. Any suggestions?

    Downpipe drain connection

Thanks for the responses. As I am going to get building control involved in some other things, I will add this to the list. I assume after the trap, the pipe into the side of the chamber can just come in straight, without having to be angled around to face the flow?
