    IRON TO COPPER CONNECTION: help!!

Simple but pure genius - all clear now. Thanks to all. I've been back to have a good look. The last bit of the lead union, as you all suspected, is indeed still there but the pipework is so blackened with the grime of ages that it looked like part of the iron pipe!! Now it is a piece of cake...

    IRON TO COPPER CONNECTION: help!!

I am installing new pipes feeding a new basin and existing bath by connecting copper runs to the existing iron pipework (there was lead pipe running from the iron to the bath/basin before). So far it has gone well: I used a 1/2in female thread to 15mm compression connectors for the basin...

Drilling overflow in old cast iron bath

Thanks to all. The hole will indeed be concealed by the fitting I have bought, but I am also having the bath resurfaced which will seal and tidy up the hole's edges in any case. By the way, nice one Softus - we unite in solidarity... it's a free world and I want my overflow!

Drilling overflow in old cast iron bath

Cheers Softus. This is all good news. Like the bit about the free carbon content  . It's good to get a grip of some of the science behind the procedures. Going to grab my old text books and see where your coming from. Thx. :D

Drilling overflow in old cast iron bath

Cheers. Good point about the overflow not serving any worthwhile purpose (always thought that myself) but I have bought the bath waste overflow jobbie (techical term  ) already and am going to go for it just for the sake of making this bath "normal" without having to sledge hammer it out...

Drilling overflow in old cast iron bath

Incredibly, the old bath in my new flat has no overflow - there is simply nothing there, although thankfully the tub volume is so big that it takes for ever for the water to get anywhere near the top! I'd estimate the bath to be about 45-50 years old I have seen posts regarding drilling tap...

Another Cast Iron Soil Stack Dilemma

Seems to be a recurring headache amongst fellow DIYnotters  , but I think my issue is a new one... I live in a block of flats. It is an unusual construction: there is a shared soil stack (with two other flats) running in a closed off 'communal void' from top to bottom of a four story...

Wash-hand basin waste to WC waste?

Planning to take a bit of a punt on a tiny 'short projection' w.h.b. which is up for grabs in an e-auction (less then 200mm - have been looking for an eternity!) but want to limit my chances of making a duff purchase due to Building Regs (who I'm sure will not answer me in time!)... So looking...
