Much appreciated, I'll give then a call on Monday to see what they advise.
When you say the low cost timber at DIY shops, do they normally do a more expensive one as we get a discount?
Luckily the woodworm is being professionally treated throughout the house and comes with a guarantee so I...
Hi all,
I need to replace some floorboards after we found woodworm damage but I'm not sure what type of timber to use. They're square edged boards, not tongue and groove.
Is there a specific type of timber to use or, providing it's the right size, can any ordinary sawn timber be used?
We do...
I work at a DIY shop so I get colleague discount and we can price match anything local so I can pick and choose everything myself. I'll check for the pressure treatment though.
That's a good plan, I'll switch them out for screws then. Forgot to add the cladding in that previous post, I'll do one with the OSB walls, cladding and fixings later on. Hopefully be able to get a rough costing for this tomorrow. :)
Joists held together by 3x4" nails at the ends. Joists held to skids by 3" angled nails (12 per horizontal joist).
2.5" nails attaching the floor to the joist frame. 8" spacing at the perimeter and 6" along the joins where possible.
4" nails hold the rest of the frame together, spaced...
I work at Wickes and I do tend to recommend you treat the fence panels around every year just like the previous poster said, it just helps them last longer and protects them a lot better.
Okay, so here's an update.
Added in the flagstones and brought in the skids for water overflow (thanks to helpful people and their knowledge).
Shortened the whole thing thanks to the ol' planning regs (thanks big), is now 2.5m on the dot from flagstones to top of roof.
Switched...
Ah yes, I was mistaking the definition of curtlidge. Now I think of it, I wonder if the neighbours got permission, they have a tall shed on stilts at the end of their garden. :p
That's a nice feature, very handy when you need to get stuff done and the weather isn't cooperative. Luckily I don't have to worry as it'll be for storage mainly, maybe some potting and garden work as well.
Height wise there's a largeish wall with a fence on top behind where the shed will go...

There we go, I love the "secret" double door, very clever. Seeing the benefit of horizontal beams now as well, as far as I can tell they can be makeshift shelves and extra places to fit hooks etc to.
Getting way too many ambitious ideas now. :p

So by the sounds of things 3x2's are perfectly fine to use for the framing instead of the 4x2's, which is good to hear. The base will be on slabs so there will be a decent clearance underneath, might have to consider putting some dpc and sand down...
That's an interesting idea, are you saying the 3x2 frame sits between the verticals or replaces them completely?
This makes a whole lot of sense now, cheers.
I'll be making a separate bike store because we'll want to take it with us when we move (hopefully not soon :p). That door on the...
