And here was me thinking that people just found a new cave when they were sick of the decor back then... :P

    Help with plasterboard

Without knowing the extent of the damage it's hard to give good advice. A more detailed description or even pictures would help. 8)

    Cold Calling sales people

Take a look at this: http://www.blagger.com/db4/company_id/3269/companyname/Pfa-Media-Uk.html Blagger is a great site for these kind of things.

    Interior filler conundrum

In my experience it's always better to go with mix yourself as the ready mix is a mother to sand in comparison. I have had the same effect with both though. As Joe said, sometimes it can just take a bit longer than you expect to dry out. It's not just thickness but the surface it's bonding to...

    f&b waterprimer undercoat??

Same as. It just seems to make a mess. Good prep and a good roller and what more can you do? I'm starting to think it's part of the excessive amount of clever marketing blurb that clients will read and think they've bought something extra special, only for us to apply it just as any other...

    What van do you use?

Well I'm just about to buy a new van. Was thinking about a 54 plate transit connect but not so sure now after reading some of the comments. Got about £5-6k to spend and will be used for painting and decorating. Was looking at a full size tranny as well but not sure if the extra space is worth...

    f&b waterprimer undercoat??

I've done it quite a few times. Just thinned out the first coat by about 10%. I can't see what difference the primer would make really. Even over plaster I'd be more inclined to use Glidden or Dulux contract first. Whilst we're on the subject of F&B Estate; does anyone actually roller and...

Lining paper versus Painting bare plaster

If your surface is sound, ie. free from loose or flaky areas and nice and smooth, then there shouldn't be any need for lining paper. I'd give the walls a light sanding (especially if the existing paint has any sheen on it). Make sure you wash the wall well with sugar soap and rinse it down...

Buying tools cheaper in america or another country??

Any political party in office would be insane not to cut taxes when possible. If there was a way to ensure we all paid and then cut the overall rate it would almost guarantee re-election. Unless they decided to spend the extra trying to invade Iran or something of course. I think I...

Buying tools cheaper in america or another country??

True, but taxation is adjusted for a percentage of non-payment. Of course it would be great if everyone was honest and paid everything they were supposed to as overall taxation would be reduced, but this is never going to happen. In the grand scheme of things, a few people not paying import duty...

    Best quality indoor emulsion??

Just to echo what Zampa's said, Dulux is good stuff but I always thin it down a bit because it's too thick. Makes the brush drag too much I think. Personally I find Farrow & Ball to be the nicest to work with out of the tin and the colours are really nice. Tis expensive though. If you do a...

    oil based paints

Something wrong with your belt sander? Anyway, sanding it off is probably the best way to go. Get a a roll of oxide paper and a sanding pole and head and do it by hand. Either that or scrape it off with a 4" knife or a heavy duty, whichever you feel more comfortable with. Without seeing it...

    How many?

 Reminds me of having a ring crushed around my finger waaaay back in the day. Running around the site looking for a pair of pliers with everyone going "what?, what's up?" and not being able to answer. DO NOT WEAR RINGS. EVER! Maybe on your wedding day for a couple of hours.

    Cold Calling sales people

I've had the charity book call. Company called Vardis does them. "in aid of children with cancer". Absolute scum. Another one was UFindUs, a web directory listings company. I knew it was them straight away but the sales person insisted they weren't UFindUs and were a different company called...
