Query about builder doing some facias and guttering

A builder is doing some work for a grandmother in law. He is replacing guttering and fascias on a bungalow and putting a new plastic roof on the car port. In the original quote he stated he would remove 3 sections of tiles and remove and replace old felt. Looking at a section he has half...

    Building new ceiling

Sorry, I'm a self builder with IT as my day job. Are we talking about fixing a length of wood to each wall (not sure what a resin anchor is?), hanging the 3 new joists with hangers and then fixing a piece of wood the same way as the end pieces across the middle of the 3 joists and fixing this...

    Building new ceiling

Whats the best way to fit these to the wall? It is a flat brick wall with 2 x 1 1/2 holes for exisiting joists. Should I use joist hangers? Have a quick look in a shop and could only find hangers to join to wood.

    Building new ceiling

//www.diynot.com/network/dabravokid/albums/1004 I've added some pictures, at the weekend I had a joiner round to look at putting some door casings in. He suggested I pull the ceiling down to look what was causing the warp. I taped myself in the room and pulled a small section down and...

    Making a cellar usable

Whats the best thing to do with the coal chute, it has been cemented over but this was to stop flooding, it has a slight gap, about 1 inch maybe 2. My problem is the chute opens straight onto the path, how would you stop the rain/people (both unwilling and thiefs) coming down, and let maximum...

    Making a cellar usable

To be honest, I kind of get the feeling he's a bodger. I have had some work done in the past and its been OK but nothing like this. I don't want an official room, I just want somewhere I can put a tumble dryer, freezer and possibly store some stuff. I have got a small de-humidifier that I...

    Making a cellar usable

I've got a cellar, probably 12 x 10 and not quite 6 ft high. At the moment its damp down there, anything down there for a period of time either rusts or grows a lovely mold. I want to make this space usable. I had a builder come round to have a look and he thinks he can coat the walls with a...

    Building new ceiling

Hi all, I'm just after some advice, the ceiling in my latest room renovation project is bowed at one end, I've not fully investigated yet but speaking to the previous occupant (wife's father) he says the boards follow one of the joists (warped). I want to get a perfect flat ceiling, I've...
