Rnning a 500w rice cooker from a 5 amp rated socket

I shouldnt let myself get carried away over things like this, having just come here for a query and not having done any wiring lately, so who knows what new exciting rules may have been introduced. The main thing wrong with wiring standards in use 50 + years ago was the poor quality of the...

    Who needs circuit breakers?

i did a search on dryer motor and it turned this up near the top. Dont ask me why. But it was an interesting thread so i read it, asnd then found I posted to it 5 years ago. Some truths just don't change, do they? In the news students bemoaning that despite record numbers of people going to...

Moving gas and electricity supplies next to each other.

well it depends. I can see this being decided by 'no, don't want a big white box on the outside of the house'. Maybe a £600 light fitting is more important.

i'm not surprised. When you start to consider the money as opposed to the inconvenience of an extra cupboard, you start to think how to work around what you have got.

Moving gas and electricity supplies next to each other.

I didnt imagine they were planning to do it themselves. Calm yourself, there is no need to panic. The council recommended them, so naturally I would have complete faith in their doing things correctly. However, being a suspiscious sort I thought it might be a good idea to start by asking some...

Moving gas and electricity supplies next to each other.

well the situation so far is that three people have quoted to do all the building work required including moving the meters. The question is whether we believe them or will be faced by someone showing surprise at an unexpected bill they wish to pass on. And as I said, to find some specific...

Moving gas and electricity supplies next to each other.

someone might wonder just how expensive it could be to add a section of pipe a couple of feet long and make three new screw holes in a wall just above where they are now, but somehow that's life. On the other hand, moving the gas supply outside would involve lots of trench digging and laying of...

    new light fitting very dim

As the last guy said, it is possible the dimmer has failed and the wiring was fine, but most likely the wires got mixed. Two lights will glow dim if you have wired them in series instead of parallel, which is to say the electricity going through the first and then the next instead of into both...

Moving gas and electricity supplies next to each other.

Hi guys, long time no see. Now, my question. A gas and electricity supply are currently about 1.5 metres apart inside a garage. The wall the electricity is on is shortly not going to exist so it has to be moved. The garge is becoming part of the house with a new arched opening just where the...

    Kitchen Problem

Yes, a switch is a good plan, but the fact you are starting from a low current supply means you do not need to fuse it down further.

    Kitchen Problem

If you have located the lighting circuit in the ceiling, then you may not need a FSU. What does the light fitting say about supply fusing, and what is the lighting circuit rating? Chances are, if it is 6A then it will be fine already.

    Kitchen circuit ?

Just to but in. I have never hauled out a kitchen appliance of any description so I could use the socket behind it to power portable equipment. But I have more than once thrown an extension lead from an upstairs window, when this was the most convenient way to get power outside. Now who was...

    HELP!!!!!

Further to the last, if that is one three wire cable to the upstairs switch and one 3 wire cable to the downstairs switch, then where is the cable going off to the lamp?

    HELP!!!!!

TLC sell two gang intermediates, or at least they did when I bought one. To be clear, there are five separate wires going to the one switch downstairs: presumably one cable containing a black and a red, and a second cable containing red, blue and yellow. (Both cables should also have a bare...
