    Earthing advice

Don't get me started on this. I did mention this to the engineer however he said "but this is what EVERYONE has [the looped supply] we're only required to provide a 60A service and that's what we've supplied"- (obviously also forgetting he had just told me that my supply was 30A )

    Earthing advice

Yeah, I think I do. I'll contact the manager assigned to my case, see what the verdict is following the survey and hopefully I can get more clarification on this earthing thing. I just wanted to check here if I understood correctly the way earthing is supposed to work first so I can question...

    Earthing advice

Yeah, they did say if I wanted a 100a supply i'd need to pay for a new supply cable (understandably), however they said the existing one should support 80a once unlooped but would have the earthing problem...

    Earthing advice

thanks for the response, yes this is what didn't make sense to me either (granted, though my knowledge and experience is somewhat limited here) The engineer just kept saying earthing was not their responsibility and if they cant gain access to the lead sheath to provide an earth, I would have...

    Earthing advice

Hey, thanks for your response, Yeah im not entirely convinced by some of the advice given by the guys who came to survey. There were some other things they said which were a bit questionable. And yepp i'm in a fully built up urban part of London

    Earthing advice

Hi all Just wondered if someone would be able to give me some advice regarding earthing. I've had the DNO out recently to have a survey done to replace my service head from the old cast iron one we have. My current earthing is TNS however the current earth cable is just strapped on the...

Dealing with bodge job in drain

I'm not sure about a mesh, but I have seen you can get one way valves which are like a flap that let water out but not back in and can be retrofitted which might work? I think they also work to keep rats and mice out too. edit: maybe something similar to this...

    Central heating/hot water issue

Hi Again, sorry to have to resurrect this thread. Just had a quick question, since the fault was repaired the hot water and heating is still working fine however I have noticed that the boiler has been making a sort of gurgling/spraying noise when using hot water or when the preheat comes on...

    Central heating/hot water issue

Hi Ian. Thank you so much for your reply, you were right on the money with that being the problem. I had really hoped the engineer would come to that conclusion by himself when he saw the fault had returned again, however I had to show him your post after he went to his van and got yet another...

    Central heating/hot water issue

Hi terryplumb, I definitely agree with you. Unfortunately in this case i'm at the mercy of who the boiler cover people send out and when they decide to send them out. I have had different provider come out to have a look at it but I got the feeling they didn't really want to do touch it given...

    Central heating/hot water issue

I should also mention the boiler pressure seems to also drop by itself over time but I haven't found any leaks in the central heating system or anything.

    Central heating/hot water issue

Hi all Just wondered if anyone would be able to offer some advice. I have a Baxi Combi 105he boiler and its recently been having a bit of a frustrating issue with it. It seems to be locking out with the 60 degree fault on pump/low pressure light flashing. The issue begins intermittently at...

    Philips TV not saving Stations

i've done a bit of experimenting and here's how it works with ours. Turn the TV on as usual and scan for all of the channels as you would. After this, Whilst in on any *digital tv channel* type 123654 in quick succession on the remote which brings up a service menu, then type 123654 again which...
