    Whistly TRV's

Some of my newly installed TRV's, but not all of them seem to get a whistle, at a certain level, then when you turn the valve slightly it would go. This is pretty annoying especiallyat night. Any ideas?

    Roofing cost

The tiles are reddish in colour but are very similar to these :- I am still concerned about the timber. Though the timber was renewed n 87 I am not sure about the timbers. Is it usual to renew the timbers in this process aswell the joist are probab;y original but the purlins and crows...

    Roofing cost

Thanks for your reply, I definitely will have a roofer have a look. It may be that I could get away with some repairs. The details are that I have been in my terraced house for ten years, as far as I can make out the roof was replaced after the 87 storms. There is some sag in the purlins...

    Roofing cost

I know this is a big shot in the dark given the variables. But what ballpark costing could anyone give pre-estimate to a mid terrace straightforward pitched roof. Is it usual to replace timbers ? As the house is 1930's I am sure that this will need to be done also same time ? I would like to...

    Leaking roof

Sounds like cavity problems to me. The wall saturates and the moisture runs down the cavity of the wall and out again at the first exit place it can find, usually at the top of a door or window frame. We had a similar problem when our conservatory was built. One solution is to check the cavity...

    Roof Chippings

Thanks for your reply. It is on a north facing extension so glare does not particularly strike me as a problem. It is a terraced house and the kitchen extension which takes half of the back wall right to left and thelean-to conservatory the other half. The conservatory roof is the one directly...

    Roof Chippings

Thanks very much for your replies, Some chippings have been embedded into the surface but it is just the many loose ones which are the problem. Anyway, about 2 or 3 times a year I have to use the roof to clean the conservatory, inspect the guttering downpipes etc. Would the paint, be ok to be...

    Automatic or manual

Kickdown you say. Autos have come a long way. I have had a 2.9 Scorpio Cosworth for the last 4 years. 210bhp. Kickdown is when your head is jammed back on the headrest like someone pulling you backwards. Serious for cruisin' - serious for power. You can have the best of both worlds in an auto.

    Roof Chippings

I have a flat roof extension with lean-to conservatory attached. The extension is about four years old and then we had the conservatory added on. The fall is from right to left toward conservatory as you look from end of garden with the guttering far left on boundary perpendicular to house. The...

    Outside tap/wall

Whats the best way to stop the pebbledashed wall underneath an outside tap from keeping getting wet and/or green. I was thinking of maybe an acrylic sheet but could that cause damp from other sources or just to seal the wall with pva. Any ingenious ideas ? Cheers

    Deck ledger board

Thanks for your reply. The deck will be a low level deck which when finished should be at roughly the same level as the back garden . I have dug approx 100mm of a levelled space of 2m x 4.7m to accomodate the deck and also a slightly deeper drainage trench along the house wall end to be filled...

    Deck ledger board

I am installing a ledger board for a deck. I am going to attach it with coach bolts to the house brick wall just below pebble dashing. There will not be a problem with load as I have excavated so that the ledger board will sit on top of the concrete foundation. My question is I have done...

    Deck Lights

Thanks for your replies. This idea was only rather than drilling holes in the PVC French Doors to accomodate the transformer (mobile phone type)inside the conservatory. The Socket I installed now you mention, is specially protected from a RCB insalled by a sparky for the ring main for an...
