Update, problem solved ! I replaced the gas valve & set the burner pressure to 10 m/b (old one was set at 14 m/b. Now everything is behaving great. ( customer phoned me 3 days after to confirm) Thinking about this, I reckon that although everything is behaving, there must be a partial blockage...

It doesn't pump over all the time (it was doing that before I raised the open vent) Secondly, no other alterations have been done to the system before this problem started. Just got home from work. Friday is always airlock city! Some nice slew are now calming me down

Update. Ordered & fitted a new boilerstat on tuesday .(Using heatsink compound) Got the phone call next day to say F&E tank still dripping when heating is running. Went back yesterday, pump is on c/h return. Was on speed 3 & hadn't been touched before problem started, put it down to speed 2...

I'm going back tomorrow morning to cap the f&e cold supply . Can't seal the system as no overheat thermostat fitted. Customer is not bleeding rads every week, pump is existing one. I may combine cold feed & open vent. Perhaps I should get a priest in to exercise the system ! Will keep you...

Thanks for the quick replies gents. It's 100% the f&e overflowing as it's drowning the float !! System filled up a dream. will check the pump speed but it shouldn't do it anyway. System is at least 30 years old.

Don't want to seal system as 3 storey house with plastic pipework 14 years old & whole estate is a leak timebomb ! I don't like condense or D2 pumps where I can get away without one as something else that can fail.
