    Water Softener Installation

just came across this post whilst installing another softener..... Google and the like say washing machine hoses are not suitable for potable water as they could contaminate it...... but we dont (and the recommendation is not to) drink soft water so why the fuss ?

    HRM Wallstar air problem

I think that's unfair After some 26 years in use, apart from the air bubbles issue causing repeated lock-outs ....which is now sorted, I can honestly say we are totally 100% satisfied with ours.....it burns cleanly with no soot and no smell, it is very economical, very neat and compact, the...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

yes, when it does the initial purge I see a few small bubbles entering the TL, when it is firing there are only the tiny micro bubbles

    HRM Wallstar air problem

the manufacturer instruction specifically states that tiger loopMUST NOT be fitted and doing so will invalidate warranty! I am wondering if they are referring to a two pipe system ?

    HRM Wallstar air problem

well well well....I contacted my highly recommended heating engineer (not going to say who he works for but they happen to make said boiler! ) who confirmed that a tiger loop was indeed not recommended for HRM wallstar but I managed to convince him to install one.....and, at a stroke ALL the air...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

just observed this.... the pipe at the back is the one going into the pump....micro air bubbles are coming back up the pipe when its running....how can they be coming up when the oil is going down ??? https://photos.app.goo.gl/dtfCJhGBa1Dav4tv9

    HRM Wallstar air problem

no, always below the pump.....top of tank is about 0.5m below the pump

    HRM Wallstar air problem

I think, with over a ton of oil in the tank that any air would soon be moved up the pipe to the highest point Also you get a few small bubbles if you tap the fire valve....exactly the same as on the one it replaced - and yes, I bought a decent quality Valspar one

    HRM Wallstar air problem

The large static bubble is something I have lived with since installation some 27 years ago o_O.....but clearly something is now wrong as it gets bigger by the day.....but, despite the efforts of myself (a highly competent DIYer who put the thing in) and my HRM engineer we just cant figure out...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

during the purge phase the bubble gets dragged down towards the pump, if the bubble is big enough it will get sucked in to the pump and hence locks out I appreciate that "they all do it " but surely ideally there should be ZERO air in the oil line

    HRM Wallstar air problem

thanks yes it is vertical, top of tank to bottom of boiler is about 1/2m, present oil level to bottom of boiler is about 1.5m The oil is pulled through immediately so must presume the NRV is working - it is a new Valspar one but is displaying the same as the old one did no difference night or day

    HRM Wallstar air problem

thanks for the detailed reply....this is since bleeding it out yesterday morning ! HRM specs say boiler may be up to 2.5m above oil tank....my local engineer says he has seen them well over 3m without problems

    HRM Wallstar air problem

It is genuine plastic pipe specifically stated for heating oil https://www.bes.co.uk/qual-oil-underground-oil-pipe-10mm-x-50m-13105/ I previously had copper pipe and had the same problem HRM do not need tiger loop and specifically state not to use them bottom of tank is approx 1.5m...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

thanks....as far as I can tell the bubbles are coming from the tank end, not the pump end I did have that exact problem with the pump about 5 years ago (when it was a mere 22 years old!) where air was indeed being drawn in but our excellent HRM engineer quickly diagnosed and replaced the pump...
