Distance of Consumer unit from meter

Hi, I am going to get my CU moved from its current location (tight against the kitchen ceiling in a boxed section above kitchen units) to a more suitable location in the under stairs cupboard at a height around 1400mm. The disctance from the meter to the new CU will be about 5-6m with the tails...

Use existing 1950s metal conduit for rewire

Hi The conduit isn't continuous its just been used for the drops where it has been buried in the plaster, i haven't had chance yet to take an old socket off to to look if it connects to the backbox but from where is drops under the floorboards its looks like a metal tube with perhaps rubber at...

Use existing 1950s metal conduit for rewire

Hi, My daughter has just purchased a 1950s ex council house. The wiring doesn't look like its been touched since the 1950s apart from someone adding a couple of extra surface mount sockets. We plan on having a full re-wire done and new CU. I am going to do all the chasing and running in of...

What type of earthing system is this?

What are your thoughts with the TT earthing and the metal CU unit, there is the potential for the CU to become live and the DNO fuse not to blow due to the relativly high impedance of the TT earth I have an MK metal CU unit that meets 17th edition 3rd amendment which I was hoping the...

What type of earthing system is this?

Hi, Yes. The supply is via over head line directly into the property via the x2 brown cables on left of first picture. Do you think its worth contacting the electricity company to do a site visit as soon as she has compleetd on the property to check if they can supply an earth or is it unlikely...

What type of earthing system is this?

So effectively an earth rod? Will there be much additional work for the electrician along with replacing the consumer unit and internal rewire. I haven't looked at the gas meter and water pipes so presume he may have to update the main earth bonding as well.

What type of earthing system is this?

Hi, Can someone tell me what earthing system this is? My daughter is in the process of purchasing this property. She is going to have to get a full rewire done but will she need to get the UK power networks in to look at the earthing or is it something the electrician will sort out.

Light switch back box for light circuit wiring

Thanks for the helpful reply. That's what I envisaged although I think there will be 8 cables coming into box as it's a 2 way 3 gang switch. Loop in, loop out, x3 to light fitment and x3 to other 3 gang switch.

Light switch back box for light circuit wiring

I don't think it's that basic. I've just never made all the connections in the light switch back box before only ceiling rose and junction boxes. I was going to use wago for the live connections (5 way with fly lead to L1 on switch face plate) as I thought it would be tidier. The light switches...

Light switch back box for light circuit wiring

Would the live wires simply go into the switch face plate?

Light switch back box for light circuit wiring

Hi, I am considering using the light switch back box for all cable connections rather than a junction box or ceiling rose. I intend to use spring clip connectors (Wago) in the back box. i am going to install 35mm or 47mm back boxes but the issue I forsee is that one of the light switches is 3...

    Hotpoint wmf940 Control board problem

Hi, I managed to get a second hand control board from e-bay. Once fitted, I still have similar symptons, the start/pause button has a slow flash and the machine will not turn off. Everything else on the control panel seems to indicate things OK but the machine does nothing. Could it be...

    Hotpoint wmf940 Control board problem

Thanks for the quick reply. I disconnected the pressure switch tube and can hear the switch activating but on re-connecting still same fault. I tried litre of water in drum and still same. I tried blowing down the tube with machine on and it starts making noises as if working but drum not...

    Hotpoint wmf940 Control board problem

Hi, I had an initial fault of F05 fault. I cleaned the pump out and dismantled hoses and fault clear but now the machine power button has no affect ( stays on) and the start/pause button has a slow flash. The machine will not start any program. there is no error code on the display and the...

Replacing honeywell 2 port head with a 3 port head

I didn't say I knew what i was talking about that is why i was asking the question. I presumed the paddle was supposed to hit the micro switch on manual so you could get the boiler to fire by moving it to manual. It does this on the old 3 port valve head I have. If its not supposed to hit...
