Plaster / plasterboard / render advice

So Peaps, what you are saying is that the op has to use a lime plaster to fix the problem ?. Ok fair enough, where is he, or a plasterer going to get this ?, at what cost ?, how long will the job take ?....at the end of the day it,s a simple patch job, and any plasterer who does this job will...

    skimming ceiling

Boards that have been fixed for a long time, dry out, hence why you had some suction. Some years ago I did a ceiling in Lanzarote, soon as the skim was applied, you could see it going in, also had no pva, in the end I hosed the ceiling down with just enough water until it changed colour, then...

    Well done you lot...

Agree with all the above, this is a good little forum which gives good advice, unlike others out there.

    flaky walls

Sounds like you have salt damp, also guessing you have no dpc. Without going into detail, if the walls are made of terractta bricks, there is not much chance of hacking the old render off without breaking the bricks, so next option is to remove the paint with a scabbler. When the paint is...

    Plastering in my extension

Bonding is designed to go over THE TOP OF MANY BACKGROUNDS, sand and cement is not designed to go over gypsum plasters as you did. You fail to listen my friend. Years ago you would give a wall a scratch coat of bonding then top it with browning, however plasterers soon caught on that you could...

    Plastering in my extension

Roughcaster is correct, also sand and cement shrinks, gypsum expands. With the gypsum being underneath, it can't expand, meanwhile the sand and cement is trying to shrink, both surfaces are on the move, which will lead to failure of the bond after time. The two products are not compatable...

    Sulphate attack - advice please

Do you mean salt damp ?, what type of plaster is on the walls , sand and cement and skim, lime and sand. Or is the house all concrete walls ?, some pics might help. Salt damp is rare in the uk, but there are some areas where it is found, and can be a real problem to sort out if there is no dpc...

    render not sticking

How much plasticizer did you use in a mix ?, too much will make the scratch coat set soft and dusty, hence the top coat will not bond to it.

It's your money they are getting - crooks and all.

You got to be joking mate !!, Armchair critics would do a better job, for less money.

My internal render fell of in places

Hi chapster, First, you should use a proper plasticizer, the washing up liquid you have used is way too much, and if over mixed will go powdery on the wall as it goes off, as the sand cannot bond with the cement due to the air bubbles of washing up liquid between the particles of sand and...
