Resurrecting a Citroen Saxo VTR garage find after 10 years!

I’d also like to thank everyone for their input and patience so far. I’m completely new to all of this as the only work I’ve done on cars previously has been aesthetically! So the mechanical side is certainly a “learn as you go” for me, but why not start with something challenging like this...

Well, multimeter is ordered and Amazon have come through with the next day delivery - so I’ll have a go at testing various points tomorrow! Suggestions on where to test are welcomed… Thanks!

Don’t worry, that was just to show the state of the previous negative battery wire/clamp! The OEM one pictured does break into two sections as you mentioned. I temporarily sourced just a new single (generic) negative battery cable to go from the battery to the chassis… if you’re UK based, do...

You’re probably not wrong. Saxo’s were the hot hatch days! I think this has something to do with the alarm/immobiliser…

That’s fair! So following your guidance I’ve done some more digging! Update: Removed the ECU out of the way… you’re right, the clicking originated directly underneath. To this beauty… now again, I’m a complete novice here… Someone please tell me what this? Hahahaha

I see, thanks for the clarification. Yes I agree, but we (the forum) still seem to be stumped overall by what the culprit/cause could be so far! Point taken. Think I’ll need to get a multimeter and see if I can get some sort of wiring diagram online for the Saxo…

The issue isn’t the AC, that was just a passing comment. Battery is new, so not the battery. Any suggestions on the potential “high resistance connections”? Thanks.

Yes, “position 0” whereby the key can be removed. If were to attempt to start it as per the video, and have the clicking start at position 2… But were to leave the battery connected, and leave the vehicle over night. The clicking would start at position 2 again, yes. It’s the disconnecting...

Hopefully the above video will confirm, yes the vehicle has 3 positions to turn the key in the ignition. After reconnecting the battery, you’ll see that the clicking doesn’t happen until attempting position 3. As I turn the key back to the neutral position and restart the process, the clicking...

Resurrecting a Citroen Saxo VTR garage find after 10 years!

Created a video to share the current state: https://streamable.com/gd2j47 So as before, the lights, hazards, wipers, electric windows, AC blowers etc all work as they should! I just can’t get the car to start with the final turn of the key and instead am greeted with the rapid clicking which...

Yes, battery is brand new. Due to the positioning of the car in the garage and no jump pack, the only option is the try boosting from another fully charged battery, but that’s to no avail. Starter motor has been replaced and all connections fine. No voltmeter, but to be fair they’re only...

Update: Managed to manually turn the engine… so that’s a good sign, right? Will be lowering the car down and trying the rock in gear next! Following that, what’s next?! Haha!

Sorry, let me be more specific, the blowers turn on and provide increases of air flow at the 1, 2 and 3 setting… haven’t specifically waited long enough and checked to see if the air gets cold, that’s the least of my worries at the moment haha. Yes, sadly a non-runner currently. Sad because it...

Not possible unfortunately, the vehicle is garaged. The rapid clicking occurs when turning the key twice, before the full turn to attempt to start the vehicle. I’m unsure. I’ll give this a go tomorrow, thank you. Yes, point taken! Spanner on the crankshaft nut, Roger that! Also a good idea...

Resurrecting a Citroen Saxo VTR garage find after 10 years!

Good to know, thank you. Most suggestions online for a vehicle not starting suggest battery, battery terminals, starter motor or alternator… so was just following the train of what is typically suggested. I’m no mechanic as you might have guessed. I haven’t, but will give that a go tomorrow -...
