    Redundant town (coal) gas supply pipe

    I've got these pipes in my house. Diameter is about an inch wide. They look very old. My dad reckoned they might be town gas and therefore redundant. Any ideas?

    There were pipes upstairs for the old gas lamps (very narrow diameter pipe) so (2) may well be something to do with these. Will try and add pics when I get home.
