Hi, the tap connector is just fractionally too small, got the screwfit wrapper here for the connector, 22mm Valve * 3/4 * 500 * 13mm. deleted

Hi, thanks, yeah this is exactly it, old taps with 22mm thread...looks like the only way is to use pipe not flexi, thanks for the responses guys! My fault for getting hold of an old cast iron bath and thinking it is a good idea using it......have the lead pipe overflow to deal with next!
