Socket connected to lighting ring - get rid or OK to label as 5A?

As you mention there is no RCD protection (unless I misread your post) it may be worth swapping the double socket for a version which includes an RCD? https://www.screwfix.com/p/british-general-13a-2g-rcd-switched-plug-socket/3133j

Adding smoke alarms to lighting, replacing junction box

Thanks, I think that's where I went wrong when linking the original Screwfix item. I was looking for someone who supplied the SW6L-MF (1 in , 6 switches, 6 lights) and ended up linking to the SW6S-MF (1 in, 6 lights). I can't seem to find a stockist of the former.

Adding smoke alarms to lighting, replacing junction box

I apologise - I have linked to the incorrect product above but the one I have previously used has a permanent supply (L&N) in and a permanent supply out (L&N) - hence you can chain multiple boxes together. https://www.screwfix.com/p/surewire-sw4l-mf-16a-4-way-pre-wired-junction-box-white/2742j...

Adding smoke alarms to lighting, replacing junction box

If this is a junction box which connects all the switch wires to the lamps would something like this be suitable? https://www.screwfix.com/p/surewire-sw6s-mf-16a-6-way-pre-wired-lighting-spur-junction-box-white/3216j It's pre-wired to take a permanent feed, and connect each switch with its...

    Colour adjustable downlight

These work with the Phillips Hue bridge (and other Zigbee bridges) if you want that type of functionality at a lower price... Live, Earth and Neutral wires live

Someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly, but in the meantime, what are you testing the cables with? For voltages as low as 12v with a simple multimeter it could be induced current from other circuits and therefore the cables are not actually 'live'.

    Bathroom Refurb

Probably best not to :) You could remove the wire from the isolator (after switching off the relevant circuits) and then check there were no other negative affects once the power is back on (e.g. bathroom light not working). Although, as stated above, the current termination method you...

Smart speakers, or smart-enable a traditional setup?

Lots of NAS devices also have additional features which include music servers. I believe the WD MyCloud has inbuilt DLNA server functionality, the Synology range of devices certainly do. I have a Synology alongside my microserver and the former is much easier to configure/manage, albeit with...

    Bathroom Refurb

Yes, sorry I have edited my post as I can see that it didn't necessarily read correctly. I have tried to provide a more detailed response below... If wired correctly, the isolator switch outside the bathroom should be a final connection before the fan. This then allows you to isolate the fan...

    Bathroom Refurb

If the isolator switch has been wired correctly then removing the permanent live from the *isolator* switch terminal will mean that the permanent live at the extractor fan will indeed be disconnected. However, assuming that the cable is fully insulated within the choc block, there is no issue...

    Weird Hob and Oven Wiring

It depends on the oven - some are supplied by the manufacturer with a 13A plug and can be plugged in. What make/model is the oven?
