Hmm, that doesn't sound good! The stone is sandstone, if that makes any difference? And it has been pointed with NHL3.5.
So would you choose to use mortar to point the leadwork, rather than sealant?
Hi
I'm finishing a lead flashing job and now need to seal the flashing that's turned into the chase. The lead has been fixed using hall clips. It's an old stone wall, with undressed stone. So nothing is straight or flat!
Although some seem to favour mortar, I've decided to use lead sealant...
Good weather and a BH weekend, so hoping to get something done with this this weekend...
If nothing else, I was thinking to remove the existing knackered fillet, repair obvious cracks and defects in the ground-wall join with a concrete repair mastic, followed by a new fillet. I figured and...
Hi. Just wondered if anyone has any further thoughts?
I've measured up and the ground level outside is 230mm lower than inside (including the two layers of tiles on the inside, without those it's more like 170-180mm difference).
The DPC (if it is in fact the DPC) is 160mm above ground...
I've found a couple of pics which may help. I'm presuming the long "crack" parallel to/beneath the pipe and extending beyond it is the DPC? What do you think?
Yes, solid floors.
Although cavity, I'd hazard a guess that the cavity could well be filled with a fair bit of crap at the...
Thanks for the quick response. The walls are cavity. I'm not sure about the DPC but will take a look when I get home. That being said, from memory I don't think it is visible and - if there is one - it is behind render.
The problem is quite a recent one and coincides with damage to the...
Hi
There are some areas around my house where there's a gap between the concrete slab/path and wall. In at least one place the water is getting in enough to make the wall wet inside the house.
What's the best stuff to use to fill the gaps?
Should I look to fill the gap with on product...
I was just thinking....
I should have plenty of space behind the sink to use a normal spanner. But I was going to get a basin wrench just in case (the old school crows feet type). Would I need a 15mm/22mm one, or a 1/2"/3/4" one? I always get confused with that, especially when one end of...
Hi
I recently did some pipe insulating in my loft.
The only two I didn't do were the vent pipes. Not sure if that is the right term for them? They are the pipes that feed water back into the top of the tanks when there is excess, presumably from steam, expansion, etc. The one going to the...
Hi
I'm going to be fitting a tap like this one:
And just wanted to check that this is the correct part for connecting to 15mm copper pipe using compression:

If not, please could someone let me know...
Hi all
Got plenty of caulking and filling coming up... I'd not heard of backer rod until recently, and having read up a bit on it it seems there's many others who are unaware of it. The big name stores don't seem to sell it either, which made me wonder how commonly it's used...
So, any fans...
Thanks everyone for all the help today. I've gone for the 356 with the x3 speed settings. It has lower vibration that the 355, which is a big bonus for me.
I managed to pick it up for £112 with a 35 piece accessory set AND a T-Stak case. Very impressed I was! And I've also hopefully got a...
Thank you both.
The DeWalt it is then :)
Now just need to decide between the 355 and 356 variant. Seems the main (only?) difference is the three speed settings of the 356.
Is it worth paying more for that?
Any other differences between the two models?
Cheers
