So partner of 8 years decides to leave before Christmas and I'm now left with a large 4 bed semi which is getting damper by the day.
5 years ago he decided to pull off all the original render and it took him 4 1/2 years to scratch coat some of it.

sorry, just realised i've done all that. drained the radiator down a few hours ago and kept the return feed pipe disconnected from the ball joint, water was flowing freely and eventually got hot, trv was open.
lockshield valve - when the problems first started, i locked this right off and then did quarter turns. will try what you suggest about draining it off. how do i check to see if i have a flow through the TRV?
Already checked the pin. Both valves were fitted as per instructions. You can feel just past the TRV and its piping hot but it just doesnt seem to move further into the radiator, if that makes sense.
The new TRV I have put on is very similar to the ones on existing rads. I also have the same TRV on a new rad upstairs which is working fine so my thinking is its not a one pipe system?
can you tell me what the difference is between TRVs. What would I be looking for.
Would it be easier to eliminate the TRV altogether and work off the room stat?
