Intermittent loss of combi hot water

Well - installed said non-return valve today and hey presto, problem has gone. Doesn't matter now if mixer control is left on or off. Really pleased  :D  :D

Intermittent loss of combi hot water

For £1.70 for a check valve I'm going to have a go and see what happens. I can always take it back out. This tap is effectively connecting the cold to the hot and vice versa when the lever is open and at the mid point. Really funny design, but there you go! Many thanks for your advice...

Intermittent loss of combi hot water

Yep, that's exactly what I wanted to do. When the fault is present all taps in the house are only delivering luke warm water. The upstairs ones get very hot for 5s or so and then luke warm again and continue to only deliver tepid water. It makes me think that the boiler has heated the water...

Intermittent loss of combi hot water

It's a Worcester 28CDi. I have narrowed it down to the possibility that a tap we have in the kitchen might be the problem. It's the type with a hose and a lever operated spray function. The mixer control was left in the mid point and on, so I am suspecting that the cold was feeding the hot...

Intermittent loss of combi hot water

Yes, I have BG cover for the boiler only. The BG engineer was going to change the diverter valve, but when he came back and the hot water was working, he said to call BG if it happened again and he went away again.

Intermittent loss of combi hot water

Twice now we have lost hot water from our combi boiler. The boiler is firing and the hot water outlet pipe is getting hot, but the tap water is just tepid. British Gas visited, but the engineer was stumped and thought it might be a mixer tap gone faulty. I isolated all cold supplies to the...

    Low pressure toilet valve

Just a follow up for anyone interested. I followed HERTSDRAINAGE2010 advice and bought the Screwfix valve mentioned. I had to chop and change the arms, but in the end the valve now works on the gravity fed rainwater feed

    Low pressure toilet valve

I did see that one, but I think the float will take up too much room. Thanks though

    Low pressure toilet valve

I'm looking for a really low pressure toilet valve because I use water from a rainwater tank to flush the toilet. There is only 1m head of water. The new toilet came with a valve but the pressure isn't enough to open it and fill the cistern. I bought a Torbreck one from Toolstation as it went...

    How to stop taps turning

Do any of you have any tips to stop taps turning on baths and basins? I always tighten the big nut with a basin spanner as hard as I dare, but invariably, the tap gets knocked, straightened and then becomes loose. It drives me mad it does!

    Shower mixer not getting hot

I did some plumbing work recently (new en suite bathroom) but the old mixer shower doesn't get hot anymore. My guess is some crap in the pipes has got into the valve? The combi is delivering hot water as the pipes are hot and the sink next to it has hot water too. Are there any tips or...

    Adding radiators - plastic fittings

The existing system is only 8mm microbore and to be honest I couldn't see any manifolds other than 22mm to 4 x 10mm.

    Adding radiators - plastic fittings

I'm adding new radiators in my new extension. I have lengths of 22mm plastic pipes under the floor linking exisiting copper manifolds. I plan to install the new radiators by inserting a 22mm Tee for flow and return and linking to a 22mm to 4 x 10mm Speedfit connector. I will use inserts...

Worcester 28CDi combi boiler over pressurising

OK, I take your point. I just don't want to waste £60-£80 on a HX to find it's not the cause and be back at square one. I think we/you have established the cause now  Cheers guys.

Worcester 28CDi combi boiler over pressurising

OK, sorry Agile :( , I'm going to leave the water off and tap open until late tonight. If the pressure stays the same (1 bar) we can assume the cold water is pressuring the system somehow when it's put back on? And as Nickso says it's more likely to be the heat exchanger as the cold water...
