The hairline gap between laminate and baseboard

Don’t think they did that trick, and the floor seems generally smooth as well as the baseboards are quite straight on average :) Curious if anyone ever had that capillary effect in mind when doing mouldings…

The hairline gap between laminate and baseboard

Yes, it's fully under it, and yet they applied silicone on top. I can assume that the laminate is not particularly water proof so if people mop their floors and spill some water (or just use a mop which is too moist) over time that leads to some swelling on the edge in case the water get sucked...

The hairline gap between laminate and baseboard

In my flat the builders decided to cover it with silicone. I guess this makes the micro gap go away and also stops the capillary effect in case water is spilled nearby. This approach is followed in every single room. I wonder what about the expansion that laminate may have? Or since it’s a new...

    OMG Human Rights Lawyers Again

Look, the debate right now is not about what legal immigrants should have or should not have access to. The whole idea Farage pedals is to not give the immigrants who haven't proven yet they are legally allowed to stay (and they can do that because UK is member of ECHR) the opportunity to do so...

    OMG Human Rights Lawyers Again

I think it's the politics that 99% of people are interested in, so no wonder :) Speaking of which, I still can't see how Mr Farage is going to abolish the basic immigrant right of defending themselves in the court without looking like a neo-Nazi. Now waiting for the ****storm in the comments...

    OMG Human Rights Lawyers Again

How about we just let the professionals do their job? It's obvious that everything has to happen within the legal framework while giving all the immigrants a chance to defend themselves in the court. Yes, they will use loopholes. Yes, they will want to stay in the country. And yes, the pressure...

8mm Laminate on OSB Over Berber — Genius Hack or Disaster Waiting?

They are glued, just some of them are not :) It's a 100% correct intel that the landlord will ask their precious carpets back at the end of tenancy!

8mm Laminate on OSB Over Berber — Genius Hack or Disaster Waiting?

@cdbe after inspecting the office again a few hours ago, I tend to agree with you! @crazydaze @aveatry I have an update: First of all, I did what I should've done earlier - raised the carpet tiles and they came off surprisingly easy. So no terrible thick layers of glue, just a brownish layer...

8mm Laminate on OSB Over Berber — Genius Hack or Disaster Waiting?

That chair I mentioned is 85 kilos, and if sitting on top of OSB-backed laminate it should be ok?

8mm Laminate on OSB Over Berber — Genius Hack or Disaster Waiting?

I can cut it down, but will have to pay for restoring it back to normal. And it's an electronic lock door, will probably add to the costs of restoring. To the point that getting rid of the carpet and restoring it later would be a comparable investment. Unless I'm overthinking it :)

8mm Laminate on OSB Over Berber — Genius Hack or Disaster Waiting?

That's a valid concern of course. The floor will be raised by 30 mm roughly, compared to the outside, but there will be two "steps" 1. The laminate (no OSB, directly on the carpet) in the door swing area. That is 8mm, so a pretty standard reducer needed. Hardly a trip hazard 2. The raised floor...

8mm Laminate on OSB Over Berber — Genius Hack or Disaster Waiting?

Does it mean that laying the laminate directly on the "spongy" carpet is better or equal to having the OSB in between? Look, if I didn't make it clear - I'm not choosing between the best (get rid of the carpet) and a 2nd best option. I'm choosing between two evils - direct laminate or...

8mm Laminate on OSB Over Berber — Genius Hack or Disaster Waiting?

OSB P5 is engineered to be quite dimensionally stable. It will not usually curl like thin plywood. A 18–22 mm T&G P5 panel, floating, tends to stay flat as long as the whole “raft” can move. Due to central HVAC system and stable conditions I wouldn't expect this setup to noticeably wobble. But...
