I have wooden floor sitting on Joists over an 18" cavity. I want to put down a 12mm laminate floor on the floor boards, do I put a DPM or a plain one, I wonder if a DPM will make the floor sweat. Thanks.

This floor always smells musty, therefore I had a look under and found a lot of wetness from an outside chimney, the fireplace is blocked off. The chimney did not have a cap on and with all the rain---------- whilst seeing to this problem I creosoted the ends of some joists, the stink is horrid...

Yes it was wet with a musty smell in the room, I believe it was from an outside chimney pot that did not have a cap on and rain was getting in and wetting the cavity floor. The fireplace is bricked up within the room. When I lifted the floor to see what was causing the musty smell I creosoted...

We have put some creosote substitute on the ends of joints under our wooden floor,----- :oops: it stinks will the smell go????
