Sorry, I might be using the wrong description. The cooker is currently connected to what I've now found is just called a [/b]CONNECTION PLATE... not a connection unit.

Not sure what you mean. There is no switch. It is just a connection unit with the mains cable feeding it.
Any thoughts on the other part of question
