    Cat problem

The drain pipe idea sounds good, a workmate suggested rather than looking for U shaped pipe of the correct size to get 2 inch pipe and cut a slot 1/2 inch wide along its length then bend the pipe over the insulation and let go, it will spring back and keep it in place, a few cable ties and job...

    Cat problem

yes i know, the O/D of the insulation is 48mm the pipe (in the picture) is 50 mm so providing i can get hold of it at my local DIY store in the 50mm size i was hoping i could simply put the square pipe over the newly installed insulation and cable tie it into place. I am not good at DIY so am...

The pipe is 220 CM long and unfortunitly runs around the end of the garage wall to the drain, it has 3 different lengths with 3 x 90 degree joints in it. Would something like this do the job if i could find it close to the size of the outside diameter of the insulation, i am not very good at...

    Cat problem

My cats have used the pipe insulation on the pipe that leads from my condensing boiler (in my unheated garage) to the drain as a scratching post and all but removed it, i am going to renew it as i have read what can happen if it freezes solid. I want to protect the pipe insulation so they...

You might be right but i am hoping he is the bad apple in the barrel and they do employ plumbers who do the job properly. I have checked the joint several times today and (touch wood) its still not leaking, i guess the metal compression elbow is better than the snap on one that was originally...

We pay for the Homeserve insurance on all the pipes in the house I expected them to send a plumber not a cowboy, why should i pay a local plumber to fix his botch up job ? I know very little about plumbing but after a quick google I knew he should have used a pipe cutter not a kitchen knife...

    Joints

Thanks, the piece of pipe he cut off did have a rounded smooth edge at one end and a small gap around the end of the pipe approx 2mm from the end, i am assuming that was the insert, he did remove something and used a lot of ptfe tape before putting it into the new metal compression elbow...

I recently had a slight drip coming from the underneath side of the hot tap on the kitchen sink, we have insurance through Homeserve and a plumber came out, he fit a new fibre washer and said it was fixed. I arrived home from work to find a new leak coming from an elbow at the other end of...

The copper pipe was wrapped in some kind of insulation ,the original heating system was put in over 15 years ago before i bought the property. my answer is a decent job not the cowboy job he appears to have done. I know why he didn't use the compression fittings in the bathroom where he...

Fortunately they soldered all the connections at the boiler end,it was a replacement so there wasn't much pipework to do.
