    Inlet valve for washing machine

Sorry, I don't really follow your thinking (but I guess you are thinking the same thing). The new valve sealed using the existing solenoid, so that really points to debris in the valve or a damaged seal. I have had a few more thoughts on the differences, and am leaning towards there being...

    Inlet valve for washing machine

I understand how these things work - my question was whether the actual valve body is different on the hot and cold - I think the only difference would be the size of the orifice and the effect on the flow rate. I didn't check, but I'm sure the solenoid was fine. If it isn't then the...

    Inlet valve for washing machine

Is there a difference in the actual valve bodies between the hot and cold inlet valves? The background: in-law reported the machine was filling up with water continuously - from a distance I diagnosed a passing inlet valve (I got that bit right) and took a cold water valve round. Of course...

    Block paving question

I am laying block paving and was reading teh instructions supplied with the Wacker plate - they say that I should use a rubber mat on the concrete blocks - is this necessary? (I have hired the plate but no rubber mat. Paving expert makes no mention of it). Thanks..

    TOPSOIL PRICES

Check local classified ads and Ebay - you'll often find people are wanting rid soil. You'll have to collect it, and probably load it yorself, but a few trips will soon see to that. The stuff you have been quoted for is probably seived and sterilised - unless you are growing prize vegetable...

    Wheel barrow!

A DIY forum may not necessarily be the best place to ask, but does anyone know the kind of shop that would sell an inner tube for a wheelbarrow? Mine gave out catastrophically - I can get online, but want to use it tomorrow so a high street shop is ideal.

    Gate post

I am going to put some gates across a double width drive, and have been looking around for gate posts - since the gap is about 5 metres wide, I want 6 or 8 inch wooden posts. I haven't been able to source these easily (or quickly) so I was wondering about using a 4" post and bolting this to a...

    Block paving against uneven edge

I am planning to put some block paving at teh back of my house, edging against a back lane - the back lane is concrete and I was going to use this as one edge. I have just noticed tha the concrete is not level - indeed there is a dip to one side that looks like several inches (4 or so) Since...

    Dampness and mildew

Thanks for that - it helps. There is no extraction and the room is generally shut off for das if not weeks at a time. Putting a small radiator in mightbe the best solution.

    Dampness and mildew

Hi I have a toilet room built on the side of my hose, and this has a concrete roof. The walls are bare brick. The room suffers from significant condensation, and mildew is constantly appearing. Is there a cure for this? I would like to tidy the room up using plasterboard on the walls...

    Hot water control

The thermostat is already at 40°C - it doesn't go much lower. :? The boiler dial is set at 2 When I turn it up to hear the click and teh boiler/valve, it is only for a few seconds so that wouldn't heat the water that hot. Could the boiler water be getting past the valve somehow? I'm...

    Hot water control

Without measuring it, it is about 1/3 of the way up. It appears to be measuring the temperature ok - the click is at a higher temprtature than is set on the dial.

    Hot water control

It is a 2 way valve (with another on the heating system). I guess it could be passing through though. Worth checking.
