Standard cast iron boiler , no dhw h/e. The smoke/vapour has all but disappeared even on start up. Will change the nozzle Possibly saturday and await the cavalry with pump pressure gauge and flue analyzer. Fair play for the help , will post updates as and when . :D

Tipper , burnerman thanks for the response's lads. definately not a leak , pressurized system and no budge on the gauge. At this stage think it just needs fine tuning with the analyser (not in the game anymore and mines out on long term loan!) . as regards the smell , it just doesn't smell right...

I have opened up the boiler , checked for leaks (pressurized system anyways and no loss of pressure) and all dry. Cleaned it out , which it wasn't that dirty a few bits of light soot on the baffles and a couple of noggins of sulphur (maybe ?) but all in all clean enough. Fired her up and running...

x800 better than x400 and no good using x100 till problem solved. Would have no problems recommending x400 to the normal diy'er , especially when most times no machine available to them. I understand x800 is not only for use with machines , but I suppose personal preference and all that. As...

Either sludge in system or pipework configuration not good. You say orange sludge in f&e , was the system flushed that you know? When the 3 port was changed what condition was the water in? maybe a treatment of x400 for a 3/4 weeks followed by x100 and see how you go. Good luck.

So to re-cap , the boiler broke down , then electrode and lead (and eventually pcb) replaced and serviced at the same time? This still sounds like a simple enough fault but without being there is going to be very difficult to pin point. Double check connections on pcb , ensure electrode is nice...

EP's had a habit of staying on when the switch/lever was set to off , but you would notice the red indicator alighted. What type of boiler do you have? You mentioned you had 2 valves (motorized) one of which was a three way valve , was this an error , and you have 2 two-ports?

Hi I thought the SBi was a system boiler not a combi.

Please don't take me the wrong way here (!) but as you are calling someone in for possible blocked cold feed , or certainly to clear your airlock , I would leave well alone and get them to check the pump for you as well. good luck
