Does this water shock arrestor install look right?

Ok so that's what that is, thank you. The water arrestor didn't come with the self-piercing saddle valve, so it is wise to use in conjunction with arrestor? Wouldn't this compromise the effectiveness of the arrestor, vs standard tee and solder install please?

Does this water shock arrestor install look right?

Hello My neighbour has plumber in today to fix water hammer and sent me a picture showing results. Plumber fitted a water shock arrestor to main supply, but it looks as if it's just been clamped on instead of actually integrated with the pipe... Does this look right? From installations...

Correct immersion heater size for 1050x450 cylinder?

Thank you. They did perform an electrical test the last time, and they said everything was fine... but clearly something is wrong. Think I need to just literally show them how much hot water I've getting after running a bath. Yep standard bath size, so I'm getting roughly 35 liters before...

Correct immersion heater size for 1050x450 cylinder?

I'm not having much luck convincing company who fitted new hot water cylinder and immersion heater that there is in fact a problem. I've explained that regardless of how long it's on for, I simply do not get a full tank of hot water (quarter bath full at best). Company assure me that it already...

Correct immersion heater size for 1050x450 cylinder?

Sorry, should have added, it's top entry. So will 27" heat up whole tank? I wish I had a look (or even kept) the old one now as that did heat up whole tank. One last thing, how are they measured please? Is it the actually element that measures 27", or the unit as a whole?

Correct immersion heater size for 1050x450 cylinder?

Hello I've had a new hot water cylinder installed along with new immersion heater. Not sure what size the immersion heater is, but I suspect it's far too small (perhaps 11") because regardless how long it's operating for, I only get quarter bath full of hot water before runs cold. What's the...

Council contractor wants to replace conventional boiler with combi

Thanks all for your replies, very helpful info and much appreciated. Just to clarify, one point I was trying to establish and query is if what the contractor said about converting to combi system being the cheaper option seemed valid? They said the council will want to opt for the cheaper...

Council contractor wants to replace conventional boiler with combi

Wow. Ok I hear what you are saying guys, and I am truly grateful for my home, somewhere where I have lived my whole life. A home that one day I do hope to own, which I'm working hard to do via self employment working more hours than I have ever worked before. This was my family home. My mum...

Council contractor wants to replace conventional boiler with combi

Hello I live in a 3 bed/1 bathroom mansionette and I've always had a conventional boiler, so when the boiler is working ok it's something I'm happy with and I don't give it a second thought. After on going issues with my current boiler (Baxi Solo 3 PFL 50), the time has come for a replacement...

Does expansion vessel need mounting or can pipes support it?

Hi all. Ok so another S&B engineer visit and although the issue should be self evident, I had to explain the problem exactly. He said 'should be fine', and basically repeated what last engineer said about the vessel being very light weight so pipes can hold it. I then relayed what you guys said...

Does expansion vessel need mounting or can pipes support it?

Hi all. Many thanks for your replies and confirming my own thoughts on this. Received call back from Smith and Byford today to book another visit to fit some other new parts, and so I took this chance to request supervisor visit. I explained that there was a dispute with me and engineer over...

Does expansion vessel need mounting or can pipes support it?

Hello I've had a new 8L expansion vessel fitted but noticed that the new one hasn't been attached to the wall, as was the case with the old one. The bracket is there, but it's just not attached to the wall. As a result it's being supported by two pipes above vessel, and boiler case below which...

Leaking window - what is this part called please?

After further investigating I now know why the keeps are missing... and that is because for some reason the locks stop short on this window, effectively only covering the right and don't run along the top or the bottom at all. I'm guessing the locks can be extended? Is it normal practice to...
