Okay, too dark (and late) to be messing with it now so I will have a look tomorrow. If the fan is as described I will give the light a go with blue and black in the neutral.

I've removed the fuse to be safe. I'm pretty sure the light is on the light circuit and goes off when the light ring is switched off at the trip switch.
Do you mean the extractor fan on the wall or the ceiling fan that I presume may have been fitted once upon a time? (The previous fitting...
Well I have a guy coming out later this week to quote on a few (more involved) jobs so it's not like I would be getting him out just for the light!

I just looked at the switch in the cloakroom which has light and extractor and the light switch is the one with the yellow / the fan is the one with the two red wires.

Thanks for the reply - funny thing is I was watching to see where the wires were and it looked the same as the kitchen one (wasn't a lot of room to see) but then when I had taken the fitting off I had this extra wire and I was like 'er, wut?'!

I shoudl have mentioned, there's an extractor fan in the same room that is controlled by a seperate switch on the same switch plate. If that's relevant?
